On a tiny island
In the Caribbean Sea
There lived a girl named Shalia
As happy as could be
Shalia was kind
Shalia was sweet
Shalia was fast
And light on her feet
She loved to sing
And she loved to dance
She loved to run
At every chance
Her favourite sport was sprinting
Shalia loved to race
Because she practised every day
She often won first place
Shalia she attended school
She tried to every day
Because Shalia loved to learn
And she loved to play
She always looked so lovely
She always took such care
She tied back her many braids
With ribbons in her hair
She wore blue ribbons every day
Because she loved them so
They made her feel so beautiful
Wherever she would go
Every day at home
She'd eat rice and peas
But her all time favourite meal
Was salt fish and ackee
She loved the fruit
And she loved the fish
And cooked together
Made a splendid dish
Shalia had a Granny
Who lived up in the mountains high
Whenever she would visit
It was so hard to say goodbye
Shalia lived in the city
In the heart of the down town core
She lived with her two Aunties
In the back of her little store
They didn't have much money
But they really weren't so poor
They always had each other
And some cash from their fruit store
See Granny had some mango trees
And an almond tree as well
Granny gave them fruits and nuts
For them to eat and sell
Shalia loved her Granny
And she loved her Aunties too
Shalia missed her Mom and Dad
Neither which she knew
She couldn't remember either one
Which made her really sad
But Shalia was still happy
With the life she had
Shalia was just seven years old
But she was so very wise
She knew she could do anything
For which she set her mind
Shalia had confidence
Shalia was so strong
She set her dreams and goals so high
She sang from her heart-song
